TIM HIXSON / SALLY MCINERNEY / PETER SOLNESS

Opening:  February 1, 6 - 8pm

Exhibition Dates:  February 1 - 11,

Times of Opening: Wed - Fri 11 - 5  Sat 10 - 6 Or by Appointment

Venue: Syndicate at Danks 2 Danks Street Waterloo Sydney

ACMP member Tim Hixson is a master of the Holga camera, a plastic lens camera that stylistically creates a vignetted image. A native of the ocean, a surfer and a resident of Avalon Beach on Sydney's northern beaches, he has a special relationship with beach culture and portrays it in playful, laconic and witty scenarios. His 'boys own' adventures illuminate our fragile relationship with the coast and the ocean. The images in the exhibition are drawn from different series (viewable on www.timhixsonphotography.com.au),

Sally McInerney has a delicate and deeply humane approach to the places we inhabit. Her gentle humour shines through in images of sublime beauty. Each landscape has an element of the personal within it, sometimes reflected in the title of the work. McInerney, daughter of the highly regarded photographer Olive Cotton, is establishing herself as a photographer to be watched in her own right. The images in this exhibition are selected from a recently exhibited series 'Uncivilised Scenes'. McInerney grew up in country Cowra, central NSW and has a finely tuned eye for human touches in the landscape.

ACMP member Peter Solness is well known for his 'light paintings' of native bushland in and around Sydney created with long exposures at night. Armed with a selection of torches and dark clothing Solness makes forays on nights when there is a moon to light his way, frames chosen areas of his beloved bushland and opens the camera shutter. He physically enters the frame and literally paints trees, rocks and waterways, building up light artificially to create a beautiful pictorial tableau.  'Illuminated Landscape' is now published as a book that is on sale at the gallery.

This exhibition is mounted to promote Australian photography in the marketplace. The creative artistic work of photographers is often underappreciated due to the ready availability and ease of use of digital point and shoot cameras, making it a truly democratic form of expression.  These works all distinctly display an artistic input within the frame. They are offered for sale at very achievable prices. This is an opportunity to put photography on your wall to be enjoyed, appreciated and talked about.
