Great night at ACMP's Language of the Lens Floortalk
09 April, 2010
The ACMP's first floortalk of the year was a great success. "Language of the Lens", which featured Melbourne based photographers Mauro Risch and Michael Kai discussing their careers, their lives and how they ended up in Australia, was enjoyed by over 40 guests.

Each of their paths was fascinating. Michael discussed his time growing up and studying in Germany, which included time in the army in the Balkans. He detailed his inspiration from other artists at various times in his career. He painted a very honest and vivid picture of an individual with determination and great talent at the start of his career.
Mauro was very entertaining and engaging with his advertising stories from the Americas (North and South) and how much of his career has him being a "spalsh" specialist.
It was great to have such an open forum where the photography community can come together for discussion about photography career paths.
Big thanks must go to Mauro and Michael for their generosity and effort in producing such considered, entertaining and informative presentations. Thanks also to Rob Anderson at Phoenix Studio for hosting the event.

One guest emailed me after the event;
"Dear Gavin,
Thank you for a brilliant night (although all of us who were there spent the most of the time in the dark). Fabulous presenters, the wine was exceptional and the pizza was not bad at all either. I have met a lot of interesting people from the industry and I am very grateful for it. I hope that we shall meet again.
Regards,
Sveto"
The both talks were recorded and will be online in a few weeks.

Tim Hixson is a master of the Holga camera, a plastic lens camera that stylistically creates a vignetted image. A native of the ocean, a surfer and a resident of Avalon Beach on Sydney’s northern beaches, he has a special relationship with beach culture and portrays it in playful, laconic and witty scenarios. His ‘boys own’ adventures illuminate our fragile relationship with the coast and the ocean. The images in the exhibition are drawn from different series -

Embeddedmetadat.org a new campaign to embed information permanently in digital media .…
ACMP: 13 December, 2011
A picture may be worth 1,000 words, but permanently attached descriptions are worth a lot more as photos travel through the digital world. A campaign has been launched now to embed descriptive and rights information in digital media and to retain it during the whole life cycle.
The initiative has been launched by the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC), the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A's), and the Association of National Advertisers (ANA), with the support of trade organisations, including the ACMP, representing visual arts and photo agencies. It aims to establish the practice of applying descriptions and the copyright status of the content as metadata, and to embed it permanently during the electronic exchange of digital photo, text, audio or video files. -
