Can anyone recommend a good sun tracking software? (Mac). I have found 'sunPath' which looks pretty good - anyone use this?

    Thanks,

    Stefan.

Focalware ipone app is good. It gives sun (and moon) rise and set times, bearings and angle of elevation for any time during the day or night. The default display is for the current time and location but you can easily set alternate locations and you just drag the sun around to wher you'd like it to be to get a time of day that you should be there.

Thanks Robert, sorry for the slow reply, we need to get the forum notifications working soon! It is being worked on.

FocalWare also looks good, was looking at it today on someones iPhone. I ended up downloading LightTrac on my iPad a few weeks back and it's brilliant. Funny thing is though it no longer seems to come up in an Apps search ... recommended it to someone and it wasn't there ... not sure whats going on with it. Be a pity to see it disappear.

    Cheers,

    Stefan.

    Hi Mate,
The Sun Seeker App that Gary mentioned is brilliant, I've used it on a few jobs now. Its best feature is the augmented reality ( 3d view) when on a 3gs or 4g.
It uses the camera, GPS, compass and accelerometer to show you a onscreen overlay of where the sun will be at a given time.

Another cool app is Google Earth with the 3d buildings layer and sunlight info button turned on. It is a bit limited, but it does show how cast shadows fall over the buildings and will even change the colour temperature to match.

"Sunlight" is also an exellent iPhone app, advises sunrise, twilight sunset time and date of any location, position of the sun , map view (sun orientation on the area you intend to shoot) twilight dusk and daylight length.

Current location gives you the date and time allows you and move the time of day and it will show where the sun is located (orientation), Azimuth and Elevation of the sun.

Google Earth map indicates the sunrise, sunset and also allows you to change the time to see where the sun will hit the building/street/area.

    Finally you can change timezone.

    Hi People,

Thanks for the tips about sun tracking software, sun tracking software is something new to me and can be very handy when I do on location shots where I need to know when the sun rises and sets to get an estimated time.

    Thanks again,
