Bang The Drum Win

Bang the Drum Competition Winners

05 June, 2010

It gives the ACMP great pleasure to announce the winners of the The Bang The Drum Competition. The first competition run through the new website.

The Non-Commissioned category winner is Melanie Tanusetiawan for her entry "The Child"

The Commissioned category winner in Mark Munro for his entry "Exit"

Melanie says, "The story about my image "The child" is it was a collaboration work with a fashion designer, her clothing pieces was about children trying out oversize adult clothings and play as a grown up. The concept of this image is about a child playing in a puddle,in her own isolated world, looking at her own reflection from a different world and different timeframe; wandered what they look like when they grow up. Before shooting i sketched roughly how the image would look like, the only challenge would be the room where the shot was taken was very small, so we had to adjust the lightings and play around with the limited space to get the right angle and compositions."

Mark says "This image was part of a series I did for one of my designer clients, CHORUS. It was an in-house promotional project titled: "Where did we park the f*@king car?" and the brief was simple - go and shoot whatever you like to fit in with an urbany/transporty/daily life-y sort of theme! Cool... so we drove around Melbourne & surrounds for a few days shooting a range of quirky subjects to fit the loose brief. One part of the shoot led us to Melbourne Airport, which is where I captured this image on the car park ramp. I managed to capture many images in this graphic style during the course of this shoot, several of which grace my portfolio today."

Both winners receive 12 months full membership to the ACMP.

The Judges were leading Sydney's Julian Watt, Melbourne's Lynton Crabb, and ACMP President Gavin Blue.

Thanks to all the participants.

A picture may be worth 1,000 words, but permanently attached descriptions are worth a lot more as photos travel through the digital world. A campaign has been launched now to embed descriptive and rights information in digital media and to retain it during the whole life cycle.
The initiative has been launched by the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC), the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A's), and the Association of National Advertisers (ANA), with the support of trade organisations, including the ACMP, representing visual arts and photo agencies. It aims to establish the practice of applying descriptions and the copyright status of the content as metadata, and to embed it permanently during the electronic exchange of digital photo, text, audio or video files.
