ACMP Summer Series - Lucas Allen's talk "Making it in New York"

11 January, 2011

As part of the ACMP's Summer Series, New York based Australian Photographer Lucas Allen generously shared about his career path from starting shooting in Melbourne to being a vey busy and in demand photographer in New York. For anyone who had dreamed of working overseas, Lucas gave incredible detail of the logistics, challenges, expectations and rewards of setting up business in the US. The video of the talk will be online in the members section in the near future.

Melissa Hobbs, one of the attendees wrote;

"As my impending trip to New York is fast approaching who better to see at the first ACMP talk of the year but Australian photographer Lucas Allen who lives and works in New York. What I am finding more and more with each talk I go to is that most photographers are forthcoming with information and are happy to answer questions you might have about the industry. Something you don't always learn in class. This most definitely applied to Lucas who was very generous with the information he provided. His talk expanded on how he got started in Melbourne right through to applying for VISA's, approaching people for work and living in New York and he was more than willing to answer any questions. It was very interesting to see an Aussie work as a successful photographer in another country. I commend the ACMP for continually introducing interesting guests to speak at their meetings. I look forward to seeing more this year"
